Perfect Interpretation of the Ultimate – Pagani Brand History

Pagani is a famous manufacturer specializing in the manufacture of super sports cars. Like the famous Ferrari, Pagani was born in the Italian town of Modena, known as the hometown of supercar. The super sports car produced by Pagani is famous all over the world for its extreme performance, large number of exquisite craftsmanship made by hand, expensive price and rare production volume of orders.

The super sports car with excellent performance and high price has always been the most sacred spiritual leader in the hearts of fans. However, due to the small audience scope, high cost and low output, as well as the global economic impact and other factors, the super sports car market has been erratic. Although there have been many successful examples, the lessons of failure are more common, which makes many manufacturers just flash in the pan, and its operation difficulty is beyond imagination. In such a case, it is more risky to create a new brand. Mr. Horacio Pagani, an Argentinian, has created his own Pagani brand step by step with his talent.

Mr. Horacio Pagani, a former Argentine F3 racing designer, came to the Lamborghini factory in Modena, Italy, to work as a car body builder on the advice of the famous F1 champion driver Fangio in 1982. Pagani believes that carbon fiber materials can effectively reduce the weight of the car and increase the rigidity of the body. It should be widely used in the pursuit of performance in the construction of super sports car bodies. Based on this, the Pagani Synthetic Materials Research Laboratory was established. Later, the research and development results were applied to the famous Diablo models, and the successful case strengthened Pagani’s belief in establishing the own company. After continuous efforts, in 1992 Pagani finally set up his own company to manufacture dream supercars in Modena, and the Pagani brand was born.

With the help of Mr. Fangio, Pagani and Mercedes Company reached an agreement to use the V12 cylinder engine produced by AMG for their models to ensure their strong power performance. In order to commemorate the great help of Mr. Fangio, Pagani initially planned to name the car Fangio, but unfortunately, Mr. Fangio failed to see the birth of the first sports car of Pagani brand and died. Pagani officially released the first super sports car of Pagani brand in 1999. Due to the intolerance to use the name of predecessors, the name of the car was changed to Zonda, internal code C12. The term “Zonda” refers to the northerly wind blowing from the Andes to Argentina, and it also implies Pagani’s feelings for the passing away of Argentine driver Mr. Fangio. In China, people give him a more concise and understandable name – the son of wind.

Using a 7.0L V12 cylinder engine made by AMG, Zonda can output 394 horsepower and the peak torque is 570Nm. Carbon fiber material covers the whole body, and the car is also made of carbon fiber. The frame adopts the tubular steel frame commonly used in super sports cars. The 1310 kg is even 140 kg lighter than Diablo. The shape of Zonda was also tested in a wind tunnel. The design of the front air dam, the rear spoiler and the rectifier can generate a downforce of 500kg on the car body at a high speed of 300km / h. In addition, the proportion of the car body is even, even at a super high speed of more than 300km / h, Zonda still has a high stability. The wedge-shaped nose and the water drop-shaped glass compartment are extremely special in design, which is quite different from the flat shape commonly used by other brands of super sports cars in the same period. For example, the tailpipe of a jet plane has become a registered trademark of this Pagani Zonda.

The parts of Pagani Zonda model come from different places. In addition to the famous AMG engine recommended by Mr. Fangio, other components including leather, suspension, brakes, etc. are designed and commissioned by external manufacturers to manufacture the parts. It will be sent back to Modena to be assembled by the design company. This approach not only ensures the quality of each component, but also enables its design cost to be well controlled. Nevertheless, Mr. Pagani, who keeps improving, insists on using hand-made parts to make each mass-produced vehicle delicate as a work of art, so that the owner can enjoy the honorable quality that other supercar brands cannot give.

In 2002, Pagani believed that the super sports car needs more powerful performance, so the Zonda S model was launched. Based on the original car, the engine adopts the 7.3-liter V12 cylinder engine produced by AMG. The maximum horsepower is increased to 555 horsepower. The acceleration time of 0 to 100 kilometers per hour is an amazing 3.7 seconds. The strong performance makes Ferrari, the top super sports car, and Lamborghini, the old owner and other brands ashamed. Subsequently, Pagani launched the convertible model Zonda Roadster based on the Zonda C12 S to meet the more needs of car owners.

Three years later, Pagani launched the Zonda F Model in memory of the late driver, Fangio. It not only represents a new change in appearance, but also represents a bold innovation in technology: 60% of the components in the Zonda F are completely different from the previous Zonda S. The power core of Zonda F still comes from the 7.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, which is readjusted by AMG car factory. The maximum horsepower output is 602 horsepower, and the maximum torque reaches an amazing 760 Nm. Equipped with such a fierce engine, the acceleration time of Zonda F is also amazing. It takes only 3.6 seconds to accelerate at 0-100km / h, while the top speed is amazing 345km / h.

The whole car of Zonda F is made of a large number of expensive carbon fiber materials, which is 80kg less than the previous car model Zonda S. The net weight is only 1230kg, and the length of Zonda F is 10cm longer than the previous car model Zonda S. This is due to the forward extending nose wing, which brings greater downforce to Zonda F. The improved aerodynamic components also include a carbon fiber tail, combined with a bottom diffuser, which gives Zonda F a downforce of nearly 600 kg at 300 km / h. Since its launch, Zonda F has continuously refreshed the best lap time of runways around the world. Top Gear, a famous British car show, ranks the best lap speed of the test track. The achievements created by Zonda F surpass Ferrari Enzo, Maserati MC12 and other supercars at one stroke.

It’s not so much that making super sports cars, it is directly understood that Pagani’s production of artworks is more appropriate. The purely hand-made interior decoration can be called a boutique, which makes other brands of super sports cars out of reach.

In 2009, Pagani launched the Zonda R model that shocking the car industry, a dreamlike car with the world’s first start in Vienna, Austria. Pagani Zonda R is a newly developed ultimate model. This ultimate supercar is equipped with AMG 6.0L V12 naturally aspirated engine from Mercede- Benz CLK-GTR. After readjustment and modification, it can output a maximum power of 750 horsepower, a peak torque of 710 Nm, using six speed sequential transmission keeps the body made of carbon fiber of the previous models and further reduces the weight, so that the overall weight is only 1100 kg. Zonda R recently announced the price of up to 1.4 million euros, and only limited to 10 units. In 2010, the car broke the world record with 6:47 in the famous north ring circuit of Nurburgring, Germany. In order to celebrate this proud achievement, Pagani has also built a worldwide limited set of Zonda HH, using the same 7.3-liter V12 engine as Zonda Cinque, with a maximum horsepower of 678 and a maximum torque of 780 Nm.

In 2010, Pagani strengthened the Zonda series, which has been sold for 11 years, and launched a global limited number of five units of Zonda Cinque model. The body aerodynamics of the car has been redesigned, and the new tail and underbody spoiler design can make the car generate 750 kg of downforce at a speed of 300 km / h. The roof air guide (responsible for cooling the engine) and the new air duct at the rear of the car body (cooling rear wheel brake) is based on the design concept of Zonda R racing car; the newly developed titanium alloy suspension system can make four settings, each of which can be adjusted in 10 levels. In terms of power, the 7.3L AMG V12 engine was strengthened again, with a horsepower output of 678 horsepower and a torque of 780Nm. It takes only 3.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers, 9.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 200 kilometers, and the speed exceeds 350 kilometers per hour. The brake performance of Zonda Cinque is also amazing. It takes only 2.1 seconds to stop at 100km / h and 4.3 seconds to stop at 200km / h. Although it is positioned as a super sports car, its actual performance has reached the racing standard. The handmade dashboard of Zonda Cinque has a very metallic texture.

In 2010, the new factory in Pagani was completed. The plant is not far away from the old plant, with an annual output of about 60-70 vehicles. The completion of the new plant greatly increased the capacity of Pagani. In the same year, at the Geneva auto show, Pagani exhibited only one set of Zonda Tricolore in the world. The new car Zonda Tricolore, was born to pay homage to the Italian Air Force, is based on Cinque model, the whole car was painted in blue and decorated with Italian flag colors (red, white and green). It also became the last model of the Pagani Zonda series.

In the spring of 2011, Pagani launched the second brand new car series Pagani Huayra after 12 years of production of the Zonda series, which further promoted the Pagani brand to a higher position among supercar manufacturers. The name Huayra comes from Huayra-tata, which is the god in charge of wind in South American mythology. Similar to Zonda, Huayra uses a 60 degree angle V12 engine from Mercedes-AMG. Now, equipped with a twin turbocharged engine, this M158 engine can generate a terrifying peak power of over 750 horsepower and a peak torque of 1100 Nm. The top speed can reach 370 kilometers per hour, and the acceleration time of 0-100 kilometers is less than 3.5 seconds. Huayra inherits the overall structure of the Pagani Zonda model and has fully evolved in details.

Unlike many modern supercars, Huayra doesn’t use a dual clutch gearbox. Instead, it uses a seven speed sequential gearbox and a double-plate clutch. The consideration of not using the double clutch transmission is based on the weight factor. The double clutch transmission will increase the weight by 70kg, which weakens the advantage of quick shifting brought by this kind of transmission. Now Pagani Huayra’s entire drive system weighs only 96kg. Such considerations are similar to Lamborghini’s latest LP-700.

The difference between Pagani Huayra and Zonda is that it uses an active control system. The ground clearance at the front of the vehicle can be adjusted. There are four wings that can act independently at the front and rear part. These wings are controlled by the active control system, which is connected with ABS, ECU and other electronic units. These electronic units transmit the corresponding signals to the active control system. The main control system can control the wings according to the current vehicle state to produce the corresponding aerodynamic effect. It makes its high-speed stability and handling performance better.

The Huayra model uses a new power system, and with the help of many electronic control systems, it improves the driving performance and optimizes the active safety performance to the greatest extent. In addition, the original aerodynamic technology has been widely used. The Pagani Huayra model, while maintaining the tradition of handcrafted, comprehensively surpasses all performance indicators of previous models, making a new breakthrough in the overall performance of Huayra.

Summary:
As a super sports car manufacturer with few output, Pagani brand has been improving and developing its super sports car with good operation condition for many years. Through unremitting efforts and strict requirements for excellence, its products have unique temperament and exquisite technology like art works, and makes Pagani sports car has unique super performance. From the latest model of Huayra, we can easily find that the Pagani brand is not satisfied with the glory brought by the past Zonda model, but constantly pursues more extreme and pure super sports car design and manufacturing.
